FAQ: Does Fastmarkets RISI show production per mill? What You Will Find in the Asset Database/Analytical Cornerstone Capacity Assumptions Operating Days for Wood Products Mills

FAQ: Does Fastmarkets RISI show production per mill?

Fastmarkets RISI does not provide actual production per mill.
Instead, Fastmarkets displays installed (nominal) production capacity, as actual production volumes and operating rates are not available. These figures are typically considered proprietary and are not shared by mills.

What You Will Find in the Asset Database/Analytical Cornerstone

The Asset Database includes Grade/Product Produced and Totals Produced – based on capacity, not actual output.

Analytical Cornerstone cost benchmarking uses the same capacity values sourced from the Asset Database.

Capacity Assumptions

Fastmarkets RISI assumes that pulp and paper mills operate at 100% of their practical capacity.
To convert between annual and daily capacity, Fastmarkets uses 357 operating days per year, allowing one week for scheduled annual maintenance.

Operating Days for Wood Products Mills

Different wood products sectors operate with different assumed working days per year:

Mill Type Operating Days per Year
Lumber 250 days
OSB (Oriented Strand Board) 350 days
Plywood 300 days
MDF & Particleboard 350 days
