Does Fastmarkets RISI show production per mill?
No, Fastmarkets only shows production capacity (installed/nominal capacity). Fastmarkets does not have access to production numbers or operating rates per mill. Also, actual output rate is often considered proprietary data.
In the Asset Database, you will find Grade/Product Produced and Total Pulp Produced, which refer to capacity numbers.
Analytical Cornerstone cost benchmarking uses identical capacity numbers from the Asset Database.
Fastmarkets RISI considers pulp and paper mills operating at 100% of their “practical capacity”, and use 357 days to convert annual to daily capacity and vice versa, which leaves a week for regularly scheduled annual maintenance of the machines.
The number of operating/working days at the different types of wood products mills is as follows:
- Lumber: 250 days
- OSB (Oriented Strand Board): 350 days
- Plywood: 300 days
- MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) & Particleboard: 350 days
