Why are the LME bid/ask so far off the market in my chart
As the LME Cash and Cash to 3M charts in MyDesk use the BID field, the charts can be affected.
You can see below the market bids lying in wait for “Good Till Cancelled” (GTC) order which can sometimes come to the surface.

Trader, recognise that these bids are testing the market and that the market never traded anywhere near there.
However, it's presence on the chart would affect trend lines and studies, because they are all models based on analysing and predicting, based on the prior path of actual prices. These bids do come directly from the LME system.

If a market participant places a low-priced BUY order as GTC (good till cancelled) and leaves that order active on the market, then their order will be the LOW every day until their order is cancelled. As you can see above, the low is constantly repeated.
In the normal operation of the order book, very low bids like this one would be hidden behind much higher bids, but what seems to be happening here is that a very low bid is being placed into the order book before other more bids that are at the market level.
Every day at 1am, LME re-sends us a Quote message for any orders still active, which is why it appears every day even though the order was only placed once.
