Introduction

Assessing historical prices is critical for understanding market trends, assessing volatility, and creating forecasts. View historical series for multiple prices in the Fastmarkets Dashboard either directly from the Price Chart widget (view up to eight prices) or in the Historic Price Table widget (view up to 20 prices). 

Historic price table widget

To add the Historic Price Table widget, click Add Widgets > Historic Price Table, then search for and add prices. By default, the Mid price is displayed. Assessed prices are displayed in bold white. Prices in grey are the assessed prices repeated across each working date up to the current date. 

Click Add to add the Historic Price Table widget to your workspace.

Click on the “Widget actions” menu and select “Edit widget” to add prices.  

Click Settings to add more fields. 

The Historic Price Table widget will adjust the layout to maximize the pricing displayed. In the example here, prices are ordered in columns and data fields in rows when Low, Mid and High prices are displayed.

You can re-order the prices added to the table if you change your mind about the order of prices in the table after initially adding them. Hover your mouse over the symbol, when the hand icon appears, then click and drag to the desired position.

Edit the date range in the Historic Price Table widget

By default, the Historic Price Table widget displays one year of prices.  

This can be edited by selecting from pre-defined ranges in the dropdown menu, as shown in the screenshot at left.

Or you can customize the time period by using the calendar. To select the date range: 

1. Click into the dates in purple to open the calendar 
2. Select the start date, month and year – use the chevron arrows to jump back and forwards. 
3. Select the end date and the table will reflect your selection

Edit the historical display "fill settings" in the Historic Price Table widget

You may wish to change how historical prices display in the Historic Price Table widget depending on how frequently the prices are assessed and whether you require to view a price for each day or not.

The Fill settings will enable you to select from the following display options: 

• ValuesOnly: The dates and prices returned will only display when assessed or published prices are available 
• CarryForward: If there is no published price for a given day, the function will “carry forward” – or repeat – the last available price for ALL WEEKDAYS until the price is updated again. NOTE: public holidays will not be excluded. Example: the price is assessed weekly (on Monday). For Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday the function will return Monday’s price. 
• Null: ALL WEEKDAYS INCLUDING HOLIDAYS will be displayed in the Date column. If there is no published price for a given date, the corresponding price in that row will be blank.   

The default setting for all prices is "Carry Forward" where prices are carried forward or repeated between assessment dates. These prices will appear greyed out, assessment prices are in bold white.

To make your selection click on the Settings panel: 

Below are examples of how prices will display with each fill setting. This example uses prices which are assessed twice weekly: 

Values Only (prices only displayed on assessment dates

Carry forward – prices repeated between assessment dates

Null – prices appear against their assessment date, blank values against non-assessment week days.

Historical price table from the price chart widget

You can view historical prices in a data table without navigating to a different widget or workspace. Click on the Line Chart link above the legend to change the view to Data Table.

Assessed prices are displayed in bold white. Prices in grey are the assessed prices repeated across each working date to provide a price where assessment dates may differ. In the example at left, prices are assessed weekly on different days of the week.

Use the Settings panel to amend the price fields to display the Low, Mid or High. You can amend the date range using the preset time periods or the calendar above the table.  

To return to the chart display, click Data Table in the top-left corner of the widget, then click Line Chart.

To view more than eight historical prices in a data table, please use the Historic Price Table widget as above.

Export historical prices to Microsoft Excel

Prices can be exported to Excel from the Historic Price Table widget either with a formula to the Excel Add-in (requires installation) where they can be refreshed to continue to update or on a static basis.

Prices will be exported with the above fill settings option you have selected. Click on the Export menu to make your selection:

The following scenarios are currently not supported by the Excel add-in. This is because the GetPriceHistory function returns historical data for a single symbol. In such cases, the Copy for Excel add-in option is disabled 

• Historic Price Table: 
  • For any average prices selected it is only possible to export with a Value Only setting 
  • If you have selected multiple symbols it is only possible to export actual assessment prices using Null or Carry Forward settings 
• Price Chart widget (Data view) 
  • For any average prices selected it is only possible to export with a Value Only setting 
  • If you have selected multiple symbols it is only possible to export actual assessment prices using Null or Carry Forward settings 
  • When you select multiple symbols and Value Only fill setting and the Price Calculation Type is not the same for all symbols e.g. one Actual, one Monthly Average
